BISU 2026 "New Sinology Program"- Master Program in Translation for Overseas Talents

I. Objectives

To promote exchanges between China and foreign countries in language, culture, and translation education, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) under China’s Ministry of Education has launched the "New Sinology Program" - Master Program in Translation for Overseas Talents. The program provides full scholarship for outstanding non-Chinese graduate students majoring in translation and interpretation to pursue advanced studies in China, with the goal of jointly cultivating highly skilled Chinese-language translators who possess solid linguistic competence, broad knowledge, and a global perspective.

II. Training Programs

1. Master's Program for Translation/Interpretation in ChinaProvides funding for outstanding foreign students with a bachelor’s degree or above to study in China for a Master’s degree in Translation. The duration of study is two academic years.

2. Joint Master's Program for Translation/Interpretation: Provides funding for applicants who are enrolled in CIUTI (International Consortium of Universities for Translation and Interpreting Studies International Association of University Translation Institutes) member universities outside China to study in China. The duration of study is one semester to one academic year.

IV. Eligibility

 

All applicants shall be:

a) Non-Chinese citizens;

b) Should be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of BISU;

c) In good physical and mental conditions, and with good moral and academic performance;

d) Age below 40 years old (as of September 1st, 2026).

V. Qualifications

Applicants shall:

a) Hold a Bachelor’s degree or above in Chinese, translation, etc.;

b) HSK Test (Level 6) with a score of 180 or above;

c) Mother tongue is English, Russian, Japanese, French, German, Korean, Spanish or Arabic;

d) Experience in translation and interpretation or awards in major competitions is preferred;

e) Enrollment: September 2026

VI. Application Procedures

(I) Application Period

Until March 31, 2026.

(IIApplication Process

a) Applicants shall log in to the International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship website  and submit application materials online.

b) Applicants shall simultaneously register and apply online through the International Student Online Service System of BISU http://apply.bisu.edu.cn/. After registration, applicants should follow the instructions to log into the system and provide required information as detailed in Appendix 1.

c) Interview will be organized by BISU for qualified applicants. During the period of review, applicants should track the application progress, review comments and result through BISU International Student Service System.

d) The Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) will entrust an expert panel to review the applications and announce the results.

e) Scholarship recipients need to confirm enrollment procedures with BISU for studying in China, print out the scholarship certificate, and register in BISU on the designated date as specified in the admission letter.

V. Application Materials

1. A scanned copy of the photo page of the applicant’s passport.

2. A scanned copy of the HSK and HSKK Examination Score Report.

3. Applicants for the Master's Program for Translation/Interpretation must provide a bachelor’s degree certificate and official academic transcripts.

4. Applicants for the Joint Master's Program for Translation/Interpretation must provide a certificate of enrollment or registration.

Note: If the supporting documents are in a language other than Chinese or English, a notarized translation in Chinese or English must be attached.

5. Two letters of recommendation from associate/full professors or experts with equivalent qualifications in related professional domains, one of whom shall come from the applicant’s department or school.

6. A personal statement in Chinese (at least 800 Chinese characters, including a resume and a study plan).

7. A certificate of no-criminal record.

8. Physical examination record for foreigner.

9. Other supporting (optional) documents: Applicants for translation major may provide samples of translations from and into Chinese, attaching the ST and indicating its source, and the number of words per copy should be no more than 800 words (calculated by the number of words in the original language). Applicants opting for interpretation who possess prior experience in this field may provide relevant proof of their work experience.

VII. Scholarship Coverage and Standards

The Scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation fees, living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance premium, in accordance with the Chinese Government Scholarship standards.

VIII. Others

a) Students who fail to pass the pre-enrollment medical examination, withdraw from the program midway, or fail to register on time or suspend their studies without permission will be disqualified from the scholarship.

b) If a student enters China in violation of the exit-entry regulations of either their home country or China, they must leave the country immediately and bear all travel costs themselves.
