Nature-based Carbon Project Development and Measurement, Reporting and Verification

Course Objectives

This in-person course is conducted under the auspices of the Singapore Cooperation Programme Training Award (SCPTA) and is one of the courses offered under the Sustainability Action Package.

This five-day programme will provide participants with a basic understanding of carbon offset project development and the different types of nature-based offsets, providing them with foundational knowledge on important value chain activities governing nature-based projects, existing methodologies of certification standards as well as key facets behind project design and implementation, including project management, working with local communities, and insights into nature-based project life cycles.

Course Topics

  • Overview of nature-based carbon project development
  • Generation of high-quality carbon credits from nature-based solutions 
  • Policies for carbon credit generation and trading under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement
  • Collaboration with local communities and investors to ensure project success
  • Standards and methodologies for measuring and reporting carbon units to ensure high quality

Methodology

The course will be conducted in-person in Singapore and will include the delivery of lectures, case studies, Q&A sessions as well as a learning journey.

Participant Profile

  • Mid- to senior-level government officials involved in leading or preparing for sustainability reports and carbon markets, including the use of Article 6 towards achieving NDCs and LEDS/net-zero commitments;
  • Nominated by their respective governments;
  • Proficient in written and spoken English; and
  • In good health.

Terms of Award

This course is sponsored by the Government of Singapore under the Singapore Cooperation Programme Training Award. This award typically covers:

  • Per Diem. (130 SGD) from the first day to the last day of the course. A proportional reduction of the daily subsistence allowance will be made if the participant is unable to attend the full duration of the course.
  • Accommodation. Free breakfast is provided at the accommodation from the first day of the course until one day after the course.
  • Course Fees
  • Insurance. (group hospitalization and surgery; group personal accident) for participants during their stay in Singapore, in accordance with the policy of a local insurance company. [This does not cover any pre-existing conditions or illnesses or any outpatient medical or dental treatment. Participants are personally responsible for all medical expenses in excess of what is covered by the insurance policy].

  • Visa application fees to enter Singapore (Note: participants are responsible for their own transit visas)

Note: - The nominating government will be responsible for the round-trip airfare of its participants. - Participants are responsible for all expenses before receiving the per diem.
