DARMASISWA is a one-year non-degree scholarship program offered by the Indonesian government to all non-Indonesian citizens from countries which Indonesia has diplomatic relations with to study Indonesian language, arts, music, crafts and other specific subjects at 72 Indonesian Higher Education Institutions selected in various cities in Indonesia.

This program is organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (MoECRT), Ministry of Finance (MoF), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of the Republic of Indonesia. The main objective of the Darmasiswa program is to increase and cultivate interest in Indonesian Language and Indonesian Culture among citizens from other countries. It is also designed to increase mutual understanding and provide stronger cultural bonds between different nations.

I. Procedures

Prospective awardees are required to register and submit all documents in Darmasiswa official website apply.darmasiswa.kemdikbud.go.id. and send all the documents to [email protected] cc [email protected]

II. Registration

When applying through the website, applicants are required to choose the Embassy/Consulate General in their respective countries of origin. Foreign nationals who are currently away from their countries of origin cannot apply by choosing the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate General in the country where they currently stay (non-citizenship).

III. Program Schedule

* The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology does not provide the International Airfare to/from Indonesia.

IV. Coverage

1. The monthly living allowance that will be received by awardees is IDR 4,700,000/month, book allowance is IDR 2,000,000 (one-off), settlement allowance is IDR 4,700,000 (one-off).
2. Awardees will be provided with accommodation and transportation during the Orientation Program if their time of arrival aligns with the schedule provided by the MoECRT.
3. Awardees are advised to bring extra money (better in USD) for their personal unforeseen expenses in Indonesia - Including processing fees for IMEI registration for phones priced above USD 500 (please refer to the FAQ for details).

1. Curriculum vitae/resume (template provided in Darmasiswa website)
2. Medical certificate (in English)
3. Passport valid at least 18 months from the time of applying
4. Recommendation Letter from Education Institution / Professional Institution on official letterhead and signature (in English) (will be provided after sending all the documentation to [email protected] cc [email protected]
5. Latest academic transcript and certificates (in English)
6. English language proficiency certificate 
7. Certificates related to the applied field (if applicable)
8. Photo passport (color)
9. Essay about applicant's purpose of study (in English or Bahasa Indonesia maximum 500 words).
10. A full body video that shows the applicant explaining her/his motivation to join the program and what she/he will contribute as an ambassador of Indonesian culture after graduating (video must not exceed 2 minutes duration and can be in English or Bahasa Indonesia).
