Description

Upon the concept of the founder of the Matsumae International Foundation (MIF), “Towards A Greater Understanding of Japan and a Lasting World Peace”, MIF has started the Research Fellowship Program in 1980.  

“2020 Research Fellowship Program” has been officially released.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants of non-Japanese nationality
  • A Doctorate degree
  • Must be 49 years old or under 
  • Not have been in Japan previously
  • Have firm positions and professions in their home nations.

Deadline of application

July 31st, 2019 (17:00 on Japan Standard Time).

*the results will be announced on the MIF website in december 9, 2019.

Period of Fellowships

For a period from three to six months.

Application documents

  • Application form: find it online or download (WORD; 34.74 KB)
  • The research Project
  • A reprint of the most significant publication by the aplicant
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • A letter of recommendation by the applicant’s employer, printed out on the home institution’s letter head
  • Certified copies for all academic certificates/diplomas (for Ph.D., MA/MS/MD, BA/BS) issued by the relevant institutions.
  • A letter of invitation signed by the profesor/scholar-in-charge at the host institution, printed out on the host institution’s letter head.

Host Institution In Japan

Applicants are free to select host institutions (university research laboratories, national research institutions or the corresponding facilities of private industry).

Fellowship Details

  • Stipend for research and stay.
  • Insurance
  • Air transportation (a round-trip air ticket to/from Tokyo) and lump sum on arrival.
