KIST School Student Internship Program

  • Preliminary internship program for the studewnts who are willing to aplly for the KIST School (UST) graduate program (Master / Ph.D.)
  • Provides R&D research experience for the student researchers
  • Provides Korean Language Lecture (Mandatory)

Guidelines for the KIST School Student Internship Fall 2026

I. Eligibility

  • Students who can keep their student status at their current universities throughout the internship period.
  • Students with fewer than three semesters remaining until graduation (As of April 13, 2026).
  • Potential applicants for the KIST School(UST) admission for Spring 2027 or later.

II. Period

September 2026 to February 2027

III. Advantages

  • Experience in national R&D projects funded by the Korean government and institutions.
  • Receive guidance from the KIST researchers with superb research capabilities.
  • Access to well-equipped laboratories at KIST.

IV. Student Benefits

  • Financial support: monthly stipend of 1,200,000 KRW for undergraduate students and 1,400,000 KRW for master’s students (before tax deduction).
  • Dormitory accommodation (approximately 180,000 KRW per month).
  • Comprehensive insurance.
  • Diverse academic/cultural events for students.

Admission Schedule and Process

2 Document Screening & Recommendation

  • KIST School does document screening then forwards documents of applicants to each institution to request recommended students.
  • After document screening, the ministry or organization recommends up to 10 applicants with their documents

3 Interview KIST School → Committee of the Interview → Applicants Recommended applicants have a video interview by the Committee of Interview of KIST School June.4 ~ June.8
4 Final Screening KIST School Committee KIST School committee decides final successful candidates based on the result of interview TBD
5 Announcement of Final Results KIST School → Partner Institution The successful candidates and the ministry or organization are notified the final results from KIST School June.26
6 Visa Process KIST School → Students For the candidates, KIST School gives a guideline to get a visa and enter the KIST School TBD
7 Internship R&D training, language program During the internship, students get research experience in the lab and take a language course Sep. 2026 ~ Jan. 2027 (Track 2) / Feb. 2027 (Track 1)

V. List of Required Documents

Scanned version of all required documents must be submitted by application deadline to e-admission system of KIST School. Other required documents): Successful applicants who pass document screening will be requested to submit it.

NOTE: 

  • All documentation must be sent in a single PDF file to the e-mail [email protected], after sending the documents, a link will be shared with you so that you can apply.
  • After submitting the application, if there is any change in the contents of the application submitted, and the applicant do not notify about the change to KIST Academic Affairs Team, KIST School can cancel the admission or terminate the internship.
  • If the students lose their student status by graduation before or during the internship period, the internship will be cancelled or terminated automatically.
  • As the internship is full-time, students should refrain from enrolling in courses at their home university during the internship period.
